My Crash Course in Wedding Planning

"I'M ENGAGED!"

So I'm a little belated in blogging about it. It's been a few months of engagement bliss (something I recommend to every bride-to-be that has the luxury of no time constraints) but as my date draws closer to 12 months away, it is time to get down to business and start planning!

My fiance (so much fun to say) and I picked out the AT&T Conference Center & Hotel here in Austin as our perfect venue. The hotel is practically new and boasts tons of Texasy extras that are essential for a couple of former Longhorns. I thought that was the hard part, but little did I know there were hundreds of other details to take care of before we exchanged "I do's!"

From picking out linens to debating over how many flower girls we would have to deciding which videography package was the perfect fit, my fiance, mom and I have quickly started to be sucked in to the constantly evolving wedding-planning universe. Deposit after deposit, you can start to feel like you are hemorrhaging money in every which way, which is an unsettling sentiment during an economic time like this. Fortunately, we have been able to do a little research and with the help of blogs like Deal Diva Bridal Guide, I have found a ton of helpful ideas that have already and will help me in the future to stay under budget without sacrificing the wedding I've always dreamed of. For example, today's blog listed bouquet jewels (what girl doesn't love a little extra sparkle) that are not only reasonably priced, but look positively fabulous! Now I can easily get away with an all rose bouquet (about half the price of the one I was originally looking at) that has all the glam of a bigger and more expensive option! Hallelujah!!

With that mini-budget crisis solved, I am on to dress shopping. Arguably one of the most stressful yet exciting processes of an engaged girl, I will take on salons this weekend armed with my Maid of Honor, lovely mother and my fiance's mom to see what we can find! I've scouted out some local sample sales, so stay tuned!
